Making a House a Home

Back in January I mentioned that we were prayerfully taking some steps to sell our home and move on to a bigger home more suitable for the growing boys in our family. Charlie's parents really wanted to help us out but after much research we found out that it would be better for us to do it all on our own. Scary for sure but exciting! We found a wonderful realtor and started our adventure.

After getting our tax return we were able to finish up some projects around the house and Charlie worked so hard pulling it all together. He was a rock star!! He has put so much into this home over the last 8 years and it shows! So proud of him. I (Megan) took on the task of cleaning up the clutter and keeping the kids out of Charlie's hair. Not so easy as it sounds! :)

On Monday Feb 18th we had our realtor over to take pictures and put our house officially on the market. The next afternoon we had a sign and flyers! Crazy!

Wednesday we got several calls for showings in the evening and Thursday morning we got a call from our realtor that we had an offer! Full price offer plus buyer pays closing costs. Couldn't be much better than that! The calls didn't stop all day for multiple showings, despite them knowing we had an offer on the table. By Thursday night we sat down with our realtor with 2 offers to consider. We decided to go with the first offer we received and made a tentative closing date of April 10.

All we have left is the inspection and appraisal. The most scary part of all! Its hard because we really don't know how the inspection will go. Our home is over 40 years old and we are a little nervous about what the inspector might find. And the hardest part is that there is nothing we can do until its all over! Eek! Its all out of our hands right now. Lots and lots of prayers for sure!

I'm feeling a million different emotions right now. One minute I'm so happy to be moving on to our (hopefully) forever home, the next I'm crying because this home has really grown on me. As much trouble as it has caused us and stress it really has been a huge part of our life and our journey as a family. All my boys spent their first nights here, took their first steps, and said their first words. We have had countless birthday parties, family/friends dinners, BBQs, Christmas mornings, etc. Lots of laughter and tears.

My head is still spinning about how fast this is all going! Need to start the house search ASAP so we don't end up homeless in April!! Eek!!

Decided to look back at the transformation of this old house and I'm just in awe. It truly has become our home....and home is where the heart is.

We used to have a TON of pictures of what a dump it was when Charlie moved in before we got married but sadly lost them in a computer crash. This is all we have left....
NASTY TV room!!! UGH!!

My Bridal Shower (ha Holly and my Mother-in-Law) Lovely paneled wall
Trying on makeup for wedding. Is there anything more ugly than this kitchen?????

Boucher Home circa 2006

Charlie's dad is always such a big help! This year they tackled the TV room ceiling. It was covered in NASTY fake wood paneling and the sheet rock underneath was destroyed. So they got creative with the wood panels.

With the leftover wood they fixed up the kitchen ceiling. The cabinets are SOO BAD!

I don't know what possessed us to paint it this color....lol...

This was the year we tackled the bathroom! Also covered from floor to ceiling with ugly wood paneling we ripped it off and had a lot of repair to do.

Training up a new helper! Little Brendan age 2 :)

Other projects included painting the paneled wall in the front room and working on the trim....

And Charlie got his shed!!

Big year! Put in the raised floor in the TV room and got carpet!

Wheeee New Carpet!!

New paint really brightened up the room!

Charlie also tackled the kitchen and really made it beautiful. Even though its still tiny its probably one of my favorite transformations. I loved the paint and its amazing what little changes can do!

Boucher Home Circa 2010-2012

After putting so much work and money into the house we took a little break. Ethan was born at the end of 2010 and we were busy adjusting to a family of 5! We did little projects here and there but nothing really big.

This year we redid the laundry room!

To get the house market ready we knew we had to finish up the TV room once and for all. The sheet rock was severely damaged on the TV wall and the easiest most cost effective way to fix it was to cover it with floor to ceiling wainscoting and paint it. Charlie also added trim to the top to cover the gaps of the uneven wood paneling on the ceiling and trimmed out the bottom.

Trimmed up the last window in the house!
Scenes of the chaos

Framing in the door. A lot harder than it looks!
I hemmed new curtains for the new framed window!

The boys and I planted some pretty flowers to brighten up the outside
